First off, I have to say a happy democratic birthday to my country, South Africa! This past weekend we celebrated the 21st year of our democracy which was super uplifting for all. Last week Thursday MRP whisked south Africa’s fashion influencers out to Johannesburg’s coolest hood – Braamfontein – for an epic street party in the name of denim.
You may recall last week I shared mine and Tegans entry to the denim connects competition. the event celebrated our work by having it on display alongside the other entrants. From the entrance hall, to a massive flat screen tv and even on our play card gifts! We were so excited to be celebrated at such an insane event. Unfortunately we were not chosen as the official winners (boohoo) but we had fun nonetheless.
Guests were invited to eat delicious food from some of the ever popular Neighbourgood’s market stalls. I was bleak that I had never experienced a Neighbourgood’s market but I was told the event was practically all the best available food at the Saturday market in Braam so I was stoked to enjoy so much deliciousness.
We were given an exclusive chance to shop the MRP denim pop up shop – where all purchases were customized with kickass embroidered badges. There were live illustrations by fashion designers, a specaial competiton where we had to find a badge of someone who matched your own (mine was “group chat” others were “MCM” “Instacool” “Twitter” etc) if you found your match and took a pic together you could score a sweet fashionable gift to take home. All this while jamming to Beatenberg and Twins on Decks.
The night was so much fun we seriously didn’t want it to end! Thank you to all my Joburg peeps & regular fashion friends for such an awesome night I wish I could go back! Check out these snaps Tegan took at the party…
About This Look
I was so excited for the event I decided that my inner street cat had to come out for this one. I had my hair braided at a Nigerian salon in Cape Town especially for the event. My turtleneck is from local designer label, Selfi. I am working with the designer, Celeste, on another upcoming project and couldn’t help but wear one of her gorgeous printed turtlenecks to the party – I am totally in love with this one from her new collection.
The denim dungarees I am rocking in this look are from MRP. They are really comfy and fit really well too. My last purchase was not that comfortable so I had to return it. They have done good this season though and I plan to buy a few more traditional denim dungarees soon. I paired them with thigh high boots more for warmth, since we had been warned that Joburg was extra cold at the moment.
