Winter is around the corner and I am so excited shopping winter essentials right now. Playing with textures and pieces that will last me more than one season I have started collections my key items for winter. My favorite of which are these ankle boots from Vince Camuto.
When investing in shoes there are a few guidelines I go through in my head while I am shopping:
1. Are they leather
This is an important factor when purchasing an investment piece. This is assuming that you have the budget to invest in a big purchase. If you’re not ready to splash some cash on a piece that will last you a little while longer than just this season – skip this step and move onto an item more suited to your budget. If you’re able to spend a little more make sure that the shoes you’re investing in are genuine leather. Leather transforms through various conditions you put it through which means the look may change over time but distressed leather still looks chic! Whats more is that you can have them refurbished at the shoemaker to look brand new!
2. Are they trendy
Investment pieces should never be too trendy! They should be timeless and be able to follow you through many seasons. When selecting these boots, for example, I decided that the buckles, zips and metal finishes provided just enough to accompany my style without being too trendy. I definitely won’t have to throw these out next season.
3. Are they comfortable
There is absolutely no point in spending R2000 on a pair of shoes that make your feet ache and keep you glued to the wall! I put these on in store with the appropriate hosiery and took a good walk around. I looked at everything else the store had to offer, I put my bag on my shoulder and chatted to the sales assistant. All these activities provide me with enough time to assess whether these boots were made for walking (and talking) or not.
