I’m not usually big on art – because I don’t really understand how to view it. My viewings usually start with “wow that’s cool” and then I get really self conscious when art nerds talk about the composition and fluidity of the work. At this point I get lost in my drink and stand there listening. But it doesn’t take much knowledge of art to appreciate the work of Blessing Ngobeni,  winner of the Reinhold Cassirer art award in 2012 was named one of the top 200 young South Africans to look out for by the Mail and Guardian.

Blessing’s exhibition at the Momo Gallery in Cape Town really spoke to what we are going through in our country right now – politically and socially. That’s what I love about art it can express and evoke emotions that words simply cannot describe. Take a look at Blessing’s work online here.

About This Look

I wore this look to David Tlale’s show at the Momo gallery a few months back and didn’t really have the chance to post it until now. I loved being laid back at a fashion show for a change instead of dressed to the nines in puff skirts, capes and turbans – although I love all those things! I wanted to be comfy and relaxed to really enjoy the ambience of the venue, people and of course couture on David’s runway. The jacket I am wearing is one of my favs from Zara. It’s genuine leather produced in Turkey – which many of you may know is a popular leather goods manufacturing country. The jeans I picked up at Urban Outfitters when I spent some time in the UK earlier this year. I paired these two favorite’s with a very loud african printed shirt from Yadah Exclusive and helmet hat from Babatunde both available at The Bromwell Boutique market. This was definitely one of my favorite looks to date!
